Question ball is a ball passing simple question asking and answering warm-up. Even adults will get some joy out of this at being able to use some simple English (not must be at beginner level).

Procedure

The ball is thrown or passed between the students. The student with the ball says "My name is _____. What's your name?".

Extension

  • chain the answers from you, to the person that passed you the ball and backwards. For example, "My name is _____. His name is _____. Her name is _____...."

Communicative demonstration

  1. On the board, write "My name is _____. What is your name?". Make sure they know this language and practise outside of the game using any usual new language introduction you normally do.
  2. Have the students form a circle.
  3. Teacher has the ball and says "My name is ____. What is your name?" and gently throws or passes the ball to a student.
  4. Point to the words on the board if needed and encourage him/her to say "My name is ____. What is your name?" and throw/pass to the next student.
