Protect

From Wikigogy

Jump to: navigation, search

Our policy is to maintain pages, not lock them down. Enable and encourage everyone to help build and maintain all pages. Keep an eye on Recent change instead of locking pages down. Be wiki. So almost never put a page into protected (locked) mode.

  • Only Admins can protect a page.
  • Only Admins can edit a protected page.
But if the [x] Only protect from moves checkbox is selected when the page is protected, the page can be edited by anyone but only Admins can move it (give it a new name).

Who can protect a page

Currently only Admins may protect a page. Please only do so if it is necessary.

When to protect a page

Protecting pages limits community participation on the site. This is contrary to our Mission and bad. However, some pages should only be edited by authorized site Admins for practical reasons. The number of such protected pages should be kept small so that the job of keeping them up to date is not too onerous for the limited number of people who have the authority to edit them.

Most Wikigogy pages are intended to be edited by the community of site users and visitors and should thus not be protected.

When to unprotect a page

Unprotected is the preferred status for Wikigogy pages. If a page has been protected and you feel it is ready to be unprotected again, say so and why on its talk page and, if you are an Admin, unprotect it.
