If your students are young or otherwise unschooled in writing, you may want to teach them the writing process as follows:

Pre-writing stage

This stage is the outlining stage of writing. The teacher's role is to give the students a topic, then ask them to give him a sentence or phrase or word related to the topic. Either the teacher writes these on the board or has the students do it. Then the students write these in their notebooks.

While writing stage

In this stage, the teacher helps his student to identify a topic sentence. Explain what a topic sentence is. Then with input from the students, arranges the words, phrases and sentences on the board. By this step, paragraphs are made.

Post-writing stage

This stage is called the previewing or the editing stage. After the topic is identified and the sentences are arranged, editing is the final stage to make a paragraph. Commas, periods and linking words are added where needed to produce a well written essay. Finally, the students write down the final draft in there notebooks.
